Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, inaugurated a two-day National Sensitisation Workshop on Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), National Mission for Mentoring (NMM), and National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) on June 28, 2024. The workshop, focused on Paragraphs 15.5, 15.11, and 5.20 of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, was organized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in collaboration with Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida.

Over 300 participants, including educational administrators, teachers, teacher educators, and policymakers from various apex bodies and State/UT Governments, attended the event held at Gautam Buddha University. The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the structure and implementation of ITEP, NMM, and NPST.

Shri Sanjay Kumar highlighted the significance of ITEP in shaping the future of education, while Prof. Pankaj Arora, Chairperson of NCTE, and Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa, Member Secretary of NCTE, elaborated on the alignment of ITEP with NEP 2020. Prof. Shashikala Wanjari from NIEPA and Prof. Ravinder Kumar Sinha from Gautam Buddha University discussed ITEP’s implementation.

The second day featured insights from Prof. Shashikala Wanjari on the importance of NMM and NPST for enhancing teacher capacity and professional development. Ms. Kesang Y. Sherpa presented on NMM, and Dr. Meena Rajiv Chandawarker and Dr. Dibyajyoti Mahanta from NCTE discussed teaching approaches and skills development.

Technical sessions led by experts like Prof. Sharad Sinha from NCERT and Shri D.K. Chaturvedi and Shri Abhimanyu Yadav, conveners of NPST and NMM respectively, enabled participants to delve deeper into these initiatives and their practical implications.
